What started out as a quick license renewal with no changes took only about 3 1/2 hours. Doors open at 7 am which is the time when I arrived. A line had to form because they only allowed 5 people in at a time. So I had to stand outside in the cold. Once inside I stood in line for a ticket number. Took about another hour for my number to be called. Then I provided my expired license, personal information, and payment to wait 1/2 hour the I received a temporary paper copy and advised the new one would arrive in the mail in about 7-10 business days. Did I mention I attempted to use to kiosk in Harris Teeter but it declined with no reason provided.

I went there after having horrible experience at Garner location. African American lady helped with walk-ins (she was so sweet). White female did my renewal, she was so pleasant and helpful. I think she was at booth 2 or 3. Overall a great experience 😊

Easy if you have an appt.

Drivers Licenses renewal.

Arrived at 6:30am and stood around outside with about 8-10 people in the freezing cold till they opened the doors. A nice lady came out and asked who has an appointment, I did since I set it up a few weeks ago and proceeded to the front of the line.
Got checked in and went right to my assigned station and the lady who helped me was extremely nice and warm to talk to. She answered my questions and I was done within 15 minutes.

Very easy and quick if you have an appointment. Walk-ins were sitting in the waiting area and it was just about full when I left. I can't imagine sitting around waiting since that would take hours.
I was able to see at least 3 workers, might have been 4.

Nobody is unfriendly, but everything happens painfully slow.

The NCDMV text message system is completely useless. Anybody can send a text message from anywhere. I could be on Mars, and still "book" a line in the queue as long as I can send a text.

Then you show up in person. When I tried getting my drivers license, they said they start walk-ins by 8am. Brilliant. But, they don't start road tests till 12. So that's 4 hours doing nothing. You're just sitting there watching the tester take 1 hour to process just two people. That means that Wendell can only issue 10 drivers license a day? 15 on a good day? It's crazy.

Perhaps it's due to being short-staffed, but the present staff seem completely unconcerned with the people waiting around in 27 degree farenheit weather. It must have happened for so long that it's simply the norm now.
